A world torn open from below and above — the Aetherial hive-mind rising through rifts in the earth, the Chthonians burning in from the other side — the setting for Kaldor's retirement in Grim Dawn.
Overview
Cairn was caught between two invasions at once: the Aetherials, an alien hive-mind that possesses the living through rifts torn in the world, and the Chthonians, fire-demons whose touch corrupts everything it reaches. Whole towns were lost to one or the other before the survivors dug in.
Kaldor is one of the Aether-touched — marked by the possession but never fully lost to it — which is exactly what let him break free and start fighting back instead. This overview is deliberately shallow, one page for the whole world, with a link out to the full map gallery for anything more detailed.
