Pandaria stayed cloaked in a permanent mist for ten millennia, sealed off by the Pandaren after the fall of the Mogu Empire — hidden so thoroughly that neither the Alliance nor the Horde knew it existed until the mist broke in the Mists of Pandaria expansion.

Beneath its serene surface lurk the Sha, physical manifestations of negative emotion born from the Mogu's cruelty, and the expansion's central conflict pit the newly-arrived factions' escalating war against the very thing that could unleash them.
