Backstory
New Tristram is built a short distance from the ruins of Old Tristram, the town destroyed by the events of the original Diablo. It's the first place players reach in the Diablo III campaign, and its rebuilding after being overrun by the Skeleton King's forces sets the tone for Act I.
The nearby Cathedral and the road down into Old Tristram's ruins tie the new game directly back to the original — the same descent, decades later, with a new generation of heroes.
